The majority of Haseltine's early works were landscapes including Italian coastal scenes and some northeastern American shore subjects. He was precise in his rendering of his subjects and this earned him critical acclaim.
During his career, William Stanley Haseltine traveled and drew in France, Holland, Belgium, and the Netherlands. His paintings of Sicily and Capri were particularly popular with American tourists who were visiting Europe.
