Henri-Edmond CROSS (1856-1910) - auto-portrait

Henri-Edmond Cross (de son vrai nom Henri Edmond Joseph Delacroix) est un artiste-peintre français pointilliste, né à Douai le 20 mai 1856, mort à Saint-Clair (Var) le 16 mai 1910.
Sa famille tient une quincaillerie. Il est formé à Lille par Carolus-Duran et Alphonse Colas. En 1883, il traduit son patronyme en anglais : son nom d'artiste sera Henri-Edmond Cross. Il habitait au 15 de la rue Jean Bellegambe à Douai.
D'abord naturaliste, Henri-Edmond Cross se lia avec Georges Seurat et Paul Signac, bien que son pointillisme fût plus intuitif. Il peignit la Provence à partir de 1900.
