Robert Frederick BLUM (1857-1903)

He visited Japan in 1890 and spent three years there; he had been interested in that country and its art for many years.
Robert Frederick Blum (9 July 1857 – 8 June 1903) was an American artist born in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was one of the youngest members of the National Academy of Design, was President of the Painters in Pastel, a member of the Society of American Artists, and the American Watercolor Society.
He was employed for a time in a lithographic shop, and studied at the McMicken Art School of Design in Cincinnati, and at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, but he was practically self-taught, and early showed great and original talent.

Robert Frederick BLUM - le marchand de soie

Robert Frederick Blum, peintre et illustrateur américain aime peindre des œuvres aux coups de pinceau rapides, aux couleurs intenses James Abbott McNeill Whistler lui enseigne les principes de l'Art japonais et l'encourage à utiliser les pastels. Il réalise ainsi de nombreux dessins et aquarelles. À partir de 1890, il visite le Japon (il est un des premiers artistes américains à le faire) afin d'illustrer le recueil d'articles Japonica du poète anglais Edwin Arnold.
Robert Frederick Blum, né le 9 juillet 1857 à Cincinnati dans l'Ohio et mort le 8 juin 1903 à New York, est un peintre et illustrateur américain.
