Fra ANGELICO - annonciation

Guido di Pietro3, en religion Fra Giovanni (postérieurement connu sous le nom de Fra Angelico, quelquefois par l'Angelico4 et de Beato Angelico pour les Italiens) ou parfois « Le Peintre des anges » (Vicchio di Mugello (Toscane), vers 14001 – Rome (États pontificaux), 18 février 1455) est un peintre du Quattrocento de qui Giorgio Vasari disait qu'il avait un « talent rare et parfait ». Il était connu de ses contemporains comme Fra Giovanni da Fiesole, dans les Vies écrites avant 1555, il était déjà connu comme Giovanni Fra Angelico (« Frère Giovanni l'angélique »). Il a été béatifié sous le nom de Bienheureux Jean de Fiesole.
Religieux dominicain, il a cherché à associer les principes picturaux de la Renaissance — constructions en perspective et représentation de la figure humaine — avec les vieilles valeurs médiévales de l'art : sa fonction didactique et la valeur mystique de la lumière.Fra_Angelico_-_The_Annunciation_-_WGA0454 (edit IPTC) (E)
