Yamamoto Shunkyo - Spring Of Mountain (detail)

Shunkyo Yamamoto was born in 1871 in Otsu city in Shiga prefecture. His teachers were Kono Bairei, Nomura Bunkyo and Mori Kansai. The artist adopted techniques from Western paintings and photography to his formal trainings in Maruyama-Shijo schools. His distinct style had vivid colors and bold compositions. His works reside in numerous museums both in Japan and abroad.
