I Don't Want a Lover evoque le changement de la relation dans un couple d'ex-amoureux. C'est le premier single musical du groupe de rock écossais Texas, sorti en janvier 1989, Texas est un groupe de rock fondé à Glasgow, en Écosse. Il a été créé par Johnny McElhone (anciennement des groupes Altered Images et Hipsway) en 1985 et a débuté sur scène en mars 1988, à l’université de Dundee en Écosse. En hommage au film de Wim Wenders Paris, Texas, le groupe est baptisé Texas. Leur musique est passé d'un son blues rock sur leur premier album Southside via Black Eyed Boy de White on Blonde au disco pop de Red Book.
