La chanson decrit la succesion des saisons aboutissant à l'été tant attendu ("looking for the summer") Le clip video decrit la marche d'un train quittant les paysages d'hiver pour se diriger vers l'ete. En octobre 89, l'album “the road to hell” montre Chris Rea bien installé dans ses habitudes. Il continue d'enregistrer au studio Miraval, dans le sud de la France, avec le producteur Jon Kelly et avec son groupe habituel. Le single “The road to hell (part 2)” grimpe jusqu’à la neuvième place du hit-parade britannique. Quant à l’album, il est No 1, avec des ventes qui dépassent le million d’exemplaires.
