The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, Moscow | Ground floor | Room 6. Hellenistic and Roman Egypt, Coptic Art A Young Man In A Gold Wreath 2nd Century ADDetails Unknown

(taille reelle)
Full-face portrait paintings placed on Egyptian mummies of the Roman period (2nd and 3rd centuries AD), most coming from Fayum; usually in encaustic paint on panel. In a number of second-century portraits a gold background is used as a symbol of posthumous fame and the head of deceased is adorned with a lauren wreath. The portrait shows great physical authenticity, plastic moulding of the face, and natural colors.
