Il devient rapidement célèbre avec son premier et plus grand succès en 1972, une ballade extrêmement mélodique et romantique You're a lady qui est numéro trois dans les charts britanniques et numéro cinquante aux États-Unis. C´est un succès mondial. Il a écrit les paroles en travaillant comme portier d'hôtel à Shaftesbury de Dorset.
Peter Skellern, né le 14 mars 1947 à Bury dans le comté de Lancashire (aujourd'hui Grand Manchester) en Angleterre et mort le 17 février 2017, est un chanteur, auteur-compositeur, pianiste, acteur britannique, diacre anglican ordonné prêtre en 2016.
