Mamy Blue est une chanson composée et écrite par Hubert Giraud en 1970, alors qu'il était en voiture coincé dans un embouteillage à Paris. La toute première version a été enregistrée en italien par Ivana Spagna début 1971. Puis le chanteur Phil Trim, du groupe espagnol Pop-Tops (en), modifie le texte et le traduit en anglais et en espagnol. Les Pop-Tops vont à Londres pour enregistrer la chanson et la sortent en juin 1971.
Hubert Giraud et le label Barclay se dépêchent alors de faire enregistrer la version anglaise de Phil Trim par le Français Joël Daydé (enregistrement en été 1971 à l'Olympic Studio de Londres, où ont également enregistré les Beatles et les Rolling Stones) et la version en français par Nicoletta (sur le playback de la version anglaise de Joël Daydé).
