Influencé par la musique soul de Marvin Gaye et le jazz de Nat King Cole, c'est en 2010 que Gregory Porter sort son premier album, Water. Nommé aux Grammy Awards dans la catégorie Meilleur album de jazz vocal l'année suivante, le disque reçoit d'excellentes critiques. Acteur intermittent, le chanteur s'est notamment illustré à Broadway dans la comédie musicale It Ain't Nothin' But the Blues.
Gregory Porter (né en novembre 1971 à Los Angeles et originaire de San Diego) est un auteur-compositeur, chanteur et acteur américain.
