Michael Jackson le chanteur rock arrive à séparer deux gangs et à les empêcher de se battre grâce au pouvoir de la danse.
Les paroles de Beat It (« Dégagez » en argot mais aussi « Battez le rythme ») évoquent la défaite et le courage, le fait de ne jamais se laisser battre et qu'il y a d'autres moyens que la violence.
Beat It, tirée de l'album Thriller sorti en 1982, a été écrite et composée par Jackson, co-produite par Quincy Jones, elle est le 3e single extrait de cet album.

Beat It est récompensée à de nombreuses reprises, notamment par deux Grammy Awards, deux American Music Awards et une entrée au Music Video Producers Hall of Fame. Reprise et samplée par plusieurs artistes, elle est également utilisée pour une campagne anti-drogue. Michael Jackson reçoit pour cela une récompense du Président Ronald Reagan à la Maison Blanche. Beat It est l'une des chansons phares de Jackson et figurait dans toutes ses tournées.
